A Litany

(Read through the following slowly, lingering on the phrases that touch your heart the most. Know in your heart that others are praying this prayer with you.)

To the Creator of all peoples and all of the human race, to the one who loves us into uniqueness, and reaches out to our brokenness in Jesus Christ, I offer my prayers:

Forgive me, dear Lord, for my reluctance to open the deepest corners of my heart to you. Help me here and now speak honestly of my brokenness. Let me join with all the others in prayer to you this day...

For an end to my blind discrimination in all its forms, my fixation on my self-centered ways, my drifting from you, we pray ...

That I and all the others around me may respect each person and value them as a creation of yours dear God, we pray ...

That in the imperfect body of Christ, the Church, I may be a witness of your presence and peace, and the place of unity among all peoples, we pray ...

That Jesus may cause me to help the victims of racial or any other kind of prejudice to forgive those who persecute them, and to help their persecutors, by Christ's mercy, have a change of heart and a deep repentance, we pray ...

Lord of all nations, hear our prayer.

Almighty God, source of our life, I acknowledge you as Creator of all people of every race, language and way of life. I thank you for the gift of life in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Help me to see others as you see me: your son/daughter loved into being and sustained by your parental care, sought after by Jesus Christ, redeemed though his love.

Keep watch over my heart so that the evil of racism will find no home in me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit.

Direct my spirit by your Son to work for justice and peace so that all barriers to your grace which oppress our brothers and sisters will be removed. In the power and strength of Jesus Christ my savior I pray. Amen.
